Combining documents to make a compendium
The National Trail were looking for a new look for their trail guide for the Pennine Way in North Norfolk. The initial suggestion was to look into combining multiple printed documents into one, allowing for the end user to access all the information they needed in one place. The Countryside Agency was left with a dilemma for the walkers of the Pennine Way: they had a total of 4 publications that cautious walkers would need to carry with them.
The end product combines these technical documents in to one, with easy to follow section maps divided into manageable distances. This was combined with reference town guides indicating essential services from ATMs to pubs and launderettes. Together with an A3 route map in the back cover this was the essential walkers guide. The success of this was rolled out for the Peddars Way.
