"Nobody goes to Heston Blumenthal's restaurant because they are feeling a bit hungry. Likewise, no one should open The Big Fat Duck Cookbook because they are looking for something to cook for supper. This book contains all the theatre and drama that you would expect at the michelin star restaurant"
This is no ordinary book... this book is thick enough to stop a bullet and has enough sparkle for a gaggle of teenage girls. With the fat ducks logo motif adorned on the exterior sleeve and on the hard cover of the book, its like opening the box of a £10k Armani suit. The edges of the paper have also been guilded just to add another little finish whilst you have a multitude of ribbons for page bookmarking.
This book is one of the most elegant I have ever seen or owned. At the front of the book is an autobiography, beautifully and wittily illustrated by Dave McKean. Then comes the 'pièce de résistance'. Beautiful photos accompany descriptions of his recipes. These dont read like your normal (dare I say) Jamie Oliver recipe. They are very technical and contain ingredients that wouldn't look out of place on the back of a neurofen packet.
Then comes the science part. The breakdown of meat, the chemical compounds of food. This is definately no ordinary book but remember that Heston is no ordinary chef. The illustrations and photos are stunning.
Yet, like I have mentioned, I didnt buy this book to cook his recipies (although I would love to give them a go) This book is a work of art. Im just hoping that at some point i will actually read it in its entireity rather than just thumb the pages looking at its beauty.
